The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've tested. They have motors that are top-of-the class and can handle up to 5,500 Pascals. As with other top iRobot models (including the top-rated model), they use smart mapping technology to design detailed floor plans and avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. They also have carpet boost, a feature that boosts the robot's performance when it spots an abundance of dirt on the carpet, allowing it clean quickly.
Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our tests on floors that are bare and are particularly effective in cleaning pet hair. They do have some flaws however, which hinder them from being our first option. For instance, the Q5's navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology which means it's susceptible to become entangled in shoes and socks and can't navigate tight spaces very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.
It's still a good deal particularly if your home or office has a lot of unfinished floors and you want to save some money. It's also very quiet and operates while you are at work or in school. The only thing it doesn't have that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. And it's less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. If you want to, you can switch the mopping pad to dry ones in just a few seconds.
2. IRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a compact, sleek package. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and efficient in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with strong suction and an automatic bin for emptying. It's the best robotic hoover for carpets but it falls behind some competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.
This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensor technology that can keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time to offer cleaner and more efficient cleaning. You can change the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones using the app that is well-designed. It has a battery lifespan that is comparable to other models.
It is possible to instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when it's in a room with carpet, which helps prevent cross-contamination. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature we haven't seen before on other robot vacuum/mop combination.
3. iRobot Roomba X40
With a sleek circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba rather than the boxy units this robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most attractive designs in our tests. The latest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest, with advanced features including enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).
It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that has 100% in our testing thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors that include a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.
The X40 as with other iRobot products, is easy to use. It has an easy mobile application interface, and it is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that the X40 still a loud unit. This could be a problem in the mornings before work, or in the evening when you are trying to sleep.
It's also a bit expensive, but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally powerful and more attractive. This is a two-in-one vacuum that's very capable however, it's more expensive and make more noise.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with many advanced features that let you get rid of your chores. Similar to Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take charge of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, and washes and dry the mop pads.
The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floor plans and spot obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its top competitors. It also has a front mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time but this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and could be confused with power cords or obstructions.
The vacuum cleaner has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to do the job. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and also adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house according to how dirty they tend to be.
For larger houses it's worth looking for models with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a specific area of your home via the app or voice controls. If you have a lot of furniture, a stair mode is also a good option. For busy families recharge functions and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off can be very beneficial.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you might think from its price. It does a stellar job vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using only one pad and a reciprocating motion that is more efficient than most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've examined. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self-emptying, washable base.
The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate the mapping process that collects data on your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or to organize an automatic spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for better performance. The app also gives access to a host of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.
It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a powerful suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for hair of pets. You can also set up a spot cleaning that intensely cleans a localized area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble cute little eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, but it is more likely to get caught in low thresholds. It also has a higher noise than other top robot vacuums we've examined. It also has a less user-friendly app and a small base station that can't be used as a bin for emptying.
